HKT (SEHK: 6823) – HONG KONG, May 20, 2019 – HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, and Flowbird, a solution provider in parking and ticketing systems, have been awarded by the Transport Department of the Government of Hong Kong two contracts with a total sum exceeding HK$680 million for the design, deployment and management of the new generation of parking meter system in Hong Kong.
The new generation of parking meter system is a key Smart Mobility initiative of Hong Kong’s Smart City Blueprint. It aims to provide a smart on-street parking experience for motorists in Hong Kong and to enhance the effectiveness of city management.
In this new parking meter system, a mobile app will be designed for the motorists. There will be vehicle sensors to detect the occupancy of parking spaces and motorists can use the mobile app to obtain real-time information on parking vacancy. They can also pay parking fees with multiple payment means and top-up payment remotely through the mobile application, taking parking convenience to the next level. The new system will be integrated and connected for maximum ease of management. The system also helps collect parking data for the Transport Department to conduct parking analysis. The obtained insight can empower city parking management and planning.
The scope of the contracts includes the provision of a total parking meter solution including the design, development and installation of the new generation of parking meters, as well as management, operation and maintenance of the system. The new parking meters will gradually replace the existing parking meters in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories by early 2022.
