YF Life Insurance International Ltd. (YF Life), a technology-enhanced insurer, has teamed up with HKT and OutSystems, a global leader in software development, to deploy an agile paperless workflow system using the increasingly popular Low-Code Application Platform. The new system digitalizes and automates paper-based workflow to streamline internal processes such as policy underwriting, procurement and approval.
The system enables staff to work more efficiently by automating workflow management, supporting some 20 business units within the company, and significantly reducing manpower and the amount of paper used, thanks to over 80 automated workflows.
The use of the Low-Code Application Platform significantly has reduced the development time by up to 50% compared with the traditional application development approach. It took only a few days to complete the first workflow design and development once the user requirements had been factored in. The system has unlocked the potential of YF Life to expand its automated workflow to encompass customer services.
Embracing change to stay ahead of challenges
During the pandemic, most businesses have come to realise the importance of digital transformation. As a forward-looking organization, YF Life is at the forefront of leveraging technology to help them stay ahead of the competition. Borrowing from experience and success from other sectors, HKT worked very closely with YF Life to understand their business needs and experiment with new ideas to rethink the digital workflow. “HKT studied our operational needs and examined our processes from the bottom up. This facilitated us to identify potential areas for automation which then helped us lay out a bold vision to digitally transform our business processes.” said Daryl Cheng, Chief Technology Officer at YF Life.
Driving a successful transformation through clear communications
With an influx of technologies coming into every business, user adoption of new technology becomes the critical success factor, especially to a project impacting day to day works of 4,000 employees and frontline consultants across internal departments and agency offices. HKT helped in both project management and user training to smooth out the transitions. “We are always kept well up to speed on the schedules and progress throughout the project. This helps our business stakeholders understand where they are in the implementation.” added Daryl Cheng. HKT also provided user training and support to boost user confidence around new workplace technology and to resolve any technical issues.
